The course program of Shunting Foreman Courses is based on the professional standard “Shunter” of the European classifier of professions ESCO (European Skills, Competences, Qualifications and Occupations)

Teaching methodology

The training consists of lectures that are held online in ZOOM. For the demonstration of the practical work are used video materials.

Educational materials. Shunting Foreman Courses

Each student receives learning materials in PDF Format. The student receives the learning materials after paying for the tuition and crediting the payment to the current account of the education centre. After receiving the payment, the education centre provides the student with access to the personal account. The student’s learning materials are located in the personal account. Video materials are sent in the appropriate video format. The cost of training materials is included in the course price.

Description of the learning environment

Training is conducted online via ZOOM.

Conditions of graduation

The course is considered as completed, after the student has passed all the subjects prescribed in the curriculum, in the amount provided by the curriculum. The exam is conducted in the form of an examination test according to the course program. The exam is counted as passed if the student has completed at least 60% of all tasks of the test. At the end of the course, the student receives a certificate of completion or certificate of attendance of the course.

Documents the student receives

A certificate of completion of the course is issued if the student has attended at least 70% of the classes, completed at least 70% of the homework and independent work and/or passed the course exam. If a student attended less than 70% of classes, completed less than 70% of homework and/or did not pass the course exam, then upon completion of the course he will be issued a certificate of attendance of the course.

The certificate of completion of the course contains the student’s personal data and school data, learning outcomes (knowledge and practical skills that the student has acquired as a result of the training), the scope of the curriculum, the period of study, a list of teachers.

The certificate of attendance of the course contains the student’s personal data, school data, the number of academic hours of study attended by the student, the period of study, a list of teachers.

Both certificates are issued in English.

As a result of passing the shunting foreman courses, the student knows the basic operations of assembling the train, checks the technical condition of the train, knows how to draw up working documentation, knows and complies with the safety requirements on the railway.

Shunting foreman courses can be taken by people who have at least a basic education and experience working on the railway under the guidance of an experienced mentor for at least 4 months.

Personal qualities: the work of a train compiler requires accuracy, conscientiousness, responsibility, stress resistance, the ability to concentrate, accuracy and speed of movements, good vision and hearing, physical endurance, visual memory, logical thinking, the ability to cooperate and work in a team.

Upon completion of the shunting foreman courses, the student has the knowledge and skills to perform the following work:

  • prepares a shunting plan;
  • assembles and disassembles trains, delivers wagons to the points of loading and unloading;
  • carries out maintenance, inspection and preparation of the train;
  • knows the requirements of traffic safety and labor protection.

1. Reception and transmission of working shifts (16 acad. hours)
1.1. Checking the availability and status of the inventory used in the work
1.2. Verification of the placement of railway rolling stock on the roads
1.3. Checking the fastening of wagons on the road with brake pads
1.4. Checking the presence of brake pads and their condition
1.5. Ensuring and checking order in the workplace
1.6. Registration of shift reception

2. Assembly and disassembly of the train and shunting work (32 acad. hours)
2.1. Preparation of the workplace and tools on the sorting hill
2.2. Preparation of the workplace on the roads
2.3. Preparation for train separation and separation of trains
2.4. Placement of the railway vehicle according to the assembly plan
2.5. Reverse or destruction of a railway vehicle
2.6. Inspection of the coupling of railway rolling stock

4.2. Transfer of air distributors to the required mode and connection of brake hoses of railway rolling stock, automatic check of brakes and issuance of brake warning
4.3. Restriction of railway rolling stock for maintenance

5. Fastening of the railway vehicle with brake pads and removal of brake pads (4 acad. hours)
5.1. Fixation of the railway vehicle with brake pads and giving the command to ride on the brake pads
5.2. Organization of removal of brake pads, removal of brake pads and placing them in the warehouse.

6. Work with freight and rescue trains (12 acad. hours)
6.1. Receiving an alert for the train driver
6.2. Performing the duties of an assistant locomotive driver.
6.3. Work on the orders of a rescue train driver or a local lifeguard

7. Maintenance of loading and unloading points (8 acad. hours)
