The course program of Podologist Courses is based on the professional standard “Podiatrist” of the European classifier of professions ESCO (European Skills, Competences, Qualifications and Occupations)

Teaching methodology

The training consists of lectures that are held online in ZOOM. For the demonstration of the practical work are used video materials.

Educational materials. Podologist Courses

Each student receives learning materials in PDF Format. The student receives the learning materials after paying for the tuition and crediting the payment to the current account of the education centre. After receiving the payment, the education centre provides the student with access to the personal account. The student’s learning materials are located in the personal account. Video materials are sent in the appropriate video format. The cost of training materials is included in the course price.

Description of the learning environment

Training is conducted online via ZOOM.

Conditions of graduation

The course is considered as completed, after the student has passed all the subjects prescribed in the curriculum, in the amount provided by the curriculum. The exam is conducted in the form of an examination test according to the course program. The exam is counted as passed if the student has completed at least 60% of all tasks of the test. At the end of the course, the student receives a certificate of completion or certificate of attendance of the course.

Documents the student receives

A certificate of completion of the course is issued if the student has attended at least 70% of the classes, completed at least 70% of the homework and independent work and/or passed the course exam. If a student attended less than 70% of classes, completed less than 70% of homework and/or did not pass the course exam, then upon completion of the course he will be issued a certificate of attendance of the course.

The certificate of completion of the course contains the student’s personal data and school data, learning outcomes (knowledge and practical skills that the student has acquired as a result of the training), the scope of the curriculum, the period of study, a list of teachers.

The certificate of attendance of the course contains the student’s personal data, school data, the number of academic hours of study attended by the student, the period of study, a list of teachers.

Both certificates are issued in English.

Upon completion of the course, the student is able to assess the condition of the foot, care for the skin and wounds, and perform care and correction of the nail plate. Podologists who have completed the course can provide recommendations and advice on health issues.

Anyone wishing to take podologist courses must have at least a secondary education. It is desirable (not required) to have experience working in a medical institution in any position, or in the field of social services (care for the sick and elderly). Podologist courses, in order to improve their qualifications, can be taken by persons with a medical education (lack of work experience, re-qualification). The courses can be taken by employees of medical institutions in order to gain professional knowledge.

The trainee has the following knowledge and skills:

  • assesses the condition of the foot;
  • provides care for the skin of the foot;
  • advises on wound care, if necessary, performs wound care procedures;
  • advises on care and makes correction of the nail plate; recommendations and preparation of manuals;
  • consultations on foot health issues.

1. Preparation and maintenance of the cabinet and tools
1.1. Personal protective equipment used in the work of a podiatrist
1.2. Materials for work
1.3. Equipment, tools and devices used for work. Manufacturer’s instructions
1.4. Legal requirements for the maintenance of the podiatrist’s office and all tools, devices and materials used
1.5. Disinfection, sterilization and maintenance of equipment, tools and devices

2. Assessment of the condition of the foot
2.1. The reasons for the visit and previous problems related to the health of the foot. Client survey using motivational interviewing techniques
2.2. Assessment of foot position, blood supply, sensitivity, soreness and temperature.
2.3. Evaluation Factors. Deformity of the foot. The nature of walking. Mobility of joints. Skin condition. Presence or absence of care. Shoe size.
2.4. Microbiological analysis for dermatophytes. Collection of material from the damaged area of the nail.

3. Skin care
3.1. Preparation of the skin for care.  Disinfection of the skin. Keratolytic agents
3.2. Skin care procedures. Hyperkeratosis (thickening of the skin, calluses) and salt warts, using various techniques;
3.3. Procedures to restore the integrity of the skin using foot care products, depending on the problem.

4. Care and correction of the nail plate, including orthonyxia
4.1. Care of the nail plate in accordance with the shape and characteristics of the nail. Use of appropriate techniques
4.2. Adjustment of the nail plate. Techniques depending on the problem. Cleaning and treatment of the sides of the nail bed, ingrown nail, in accordance with the nature of the problem. Correction of ingrown nails
4.3. Adjusting the direction of nail growth with nail correction clamps
4.4. Correction and restoration of the deformed or exfoliated nail plate or its part, taking into account the client’s lifestyle

5. Recommendations, adaptation and creation of auxiliary means
5.1. Advising the client on the choice of auxiliary means, socks and shoes based on his lifestyle and personality
5.2. Recommendations of auxiliary means and self-help means for correcting the position of the foot and the distribution of pressure, based on the needs and individuality of the client
5.3. Adaptation of auxiliary means (insoles, orthoses for the foot and toes) depending on the needs and individuality of the client
5.4. Auxiliary means (e.g., toe supports), in accordance with the needs and personality of the client
